Outdoor air quality
POLLUTION PROTOCOL FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT
– A real-time reading is displayed on the screens installed on the campus and on the institution’s website (Fine particle concentration PM 2.5). It tells staff the level of pollution and the behaviors to be adopted, in relation to the Protocol in force. -We use the official Chinese website (http://zx.bjmemc.com.cn/) as a reference. The website of the United States Embassy is consulted as an indication. -The LFIP protocol, based on a real-time survey, is respectful of the Beijing Municipality protocol (this one sends alerts based on forecasts of AQI > 200).
Indoor air quality (PM2,5 - CO2)
Indoor air quality is measured with two parameters: PM2.5 fine particle concentration (in μg / m3) and CO2 level (in ppm).
LFIP installed 14 visual air sensors across the facility to measure PM2.5 and CO2. The measurements are published above.
The locations were chosen to cover all school spaces. The sensors are not nominative and are moved every school holiday period in the area assigned to them.
The air handling units of the school building are open on working days from 6 am until 7 pm in the evening. Outside school time the display will be automatically “grayed out”. The hours of operation of the gymnasium, canteen and auditorium are adjusted according to the activities.

Measurements are published hourly as an average of the past hour.
Improvement of air quality compared to outside
A percentage of filtration is given as an indication. This does not only depend on the efficiency of the centralized filtration system but also on the human behavior inside the establishment. The opening of a door or window during periods of heavy pollution has immediate consequences for the quality of indoor air.

Since moving to its new campus, the facility has completed several series of indoor air quality and exterior cladding tests.
As of January 2017, all results are in compliance with the standards.
Indoor air quality tests
– Laboratory selected: Center for Building Environnent Tsinghua University Test
– Standard used: GB / T 18883-2002 of the Chinese Ministry of the Environment
– Protocol used: closure of buildings and shutdown of all ventilation for 12 hours before measurements
– Measured substances: formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, xylene and COVt
