THE AGENCY FOR FRENCH EDUCATION ABROAD
The AEFE, a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, runs and manages the network of French educational institutions abroad with the mission of ensuring the education of children from French families outside our borders, to contribute to the influence of the French language and culture and to participate in the reinforcement of the relations of cooperation between the French and foreign education systems. This unique school network has 495 schools in the world, with 342,000 students, including 123,000 French students, in 137 countries. The quality and the homogeneity of the teaching provided in these establishments as well as the values which are attached to them constitute the specificities of this network which are unique in its extent in the world.
EXCEL, SHARE, SHINE
The accreditation of French institutions abroad by the French Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research attests of their conformity with the curriculum, educational objectives and fundamental values of the French education system. The proposed course is innovative, open to the culture and language of the host countries, and provides enhanced learning in modern languages from kindergarten to graduation. It prepares students for their future as citizens in open, multilingual, and multicultural societies. The institutions of the network are designed to reconcile French education and teaching of international standard, the promotion of French and the development of plurilingualism, and a pedagogy committed to the success of all.
MISSION OF THE AEFE
- Ensure the CONTINUITY OF THE FRENCH PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM for the children of French families living abroad.
- Participate in EDUCATIONAL COOPERATION by maintaining privileged relationships with the culture, language, and schools of the host country.
- Contribute, through the education of foreign students, to the influence of FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE.
- Grant income-based SCHOLARSHIPS to French children in network schools.
